Heat and sweat. Sweat and heat

Hey everyone! I'm doing good down here. Saturday was a little rough because I got a little sick because of the heat. I'm not used to it being in the 120s almost every day. I'm staying hydrated so don't any of you worry. I don't think I've sweated this much in my whole life. Here is something crazy. So When I weighed myself at the MTC I was 240 pounds. Right now I weigh 209 pounds! I have lost 31 pounds in this first 3 and a half months of my mission. I don't recognize myself sometimes when I look in the mirror.  Cool contacting story. We were out knocking doors on thursday and I knocked on this one door and this older guy opened it a little bit and asked who we were. In Spanish I say "hello we are missionaries...." and before I could finish the sentace he threw open the door and got super excited and told us to come in. We go in and he has us take a seat and gets us some ice water. He told us his name was Juan. His wife came in the door as we...

Canicula

Hey everyone!  There isn´t really a ton to talk about this week.  The Canicula has officially started and this year is supposed to be a bad one. (It cooled off to 115 this last week with the rain, but next week we are supposed to be back up to over 120)   We´re starting to drink even more water and take extra precautions with sunscreen. I end my training in a little under 3 weeks which is exciting! I´m also a little nervous to see where I´ll be going and whether or not I´ll be a trainer.      Today for P-day  we went bowling and a member took our district to a buffet, so that was fun. We found a new family to teach on Thursday. We had our first lesson with the Mom on Saturday. We taught her about the plan of salvation because one of daughters had died several years ago. She had never heard of the 3 kingdoms of glory and she loved the message and agreed to be baptized. Lesson 1!  But she isn´t married to the man she is living with so s...

The Cool before the heat wave

It has actually cooled off for a few days because of the serious cloud cover.  It was supposed to rain but it didn't.  We just got the big dark clouds and the cooler air which was perfect.  The real heat starts next week with the start of the Canicula. A little about our Branch: We have started to see little changes with the attitude of the people in the Branch.  One less active priesthood holder has started coming back to church and the Branch President has started doing less active visits with us.  So that is good. We have found a family of 4 that we have high hopes for.  The mom's name is Lorena and she has 3 kids.  The father lives in Texas. One cool little announcement from the Mission Pres.:  He said that this next year, some areas of the mission will be getting tablets and some areas might be getting cars. This week Dallin sent a recording,  He is a bit slow with his words and says "um" a lot.  I can tell he is thinking ...

Happy 4th of July!!

This week was a pretty good one. We did a ton of contacting. On Tuesday we found this older couple. The wife didn't really talk to us because she had to go somewhere but the husband did. His name is Oscar. He wasn't interested in the message much but he was super kind. He has a ranch about 6 miles outside of town. He actually invited us to come one day and see all the animals and maybe even teach us how to ride a horse!! We are probably going to do that for P day next week. Friday and Saturday we pretty much contacted for half the day because we need more investigators. I got roasted by the heat pretty terribly on Saturday and ended up getting a little sick. Yes I've been drinking water, but the heat is just so bad it hardly helps. Today has been pretty sweet! after washing our clothes me and Elder Peña made ourselves a pizza from scratch. Dough and everything. It was super good! Anyway, the work progresses here in Sabinas Hidalgo. Love you all. Elder Hoyt Even w...

Return to the CCM

This last week was pretty cool! We had our "Return to the CCM" activity on Friday at the mission offices back in Monterrey. We had to wake up at 3 in the morning to get there on time. The activity was basically trainings and practices. It was for all the Elders that came to the mission at the same time I did and who were finishing up their first change. So I got to see Elder Powers and Elder Johansen again! District 11A reunited! I also got to see Elder Anderson! He went to high school with me. It was super nice to talk to someone from home. The acivity only lasted for half the day and then we had to go back to Sabinas yet again. By the time we got back it was already 6:00. Our whole day had pretty much been spent. So we had time to visit a couple investigators with the Mission leader and then go home.  Our investigator, Guadelupe, hasn't come to church and has pretty much stopped progressing. So that has been a bit sad. She won't be getting baptized any time ...
