Success and Sickness

Hola todos! Este semana pasada fue interesante.  We had some pretty cool moments of success this week. On Thursday night we had the mutual activity. Me and Elder Quilter went to the chappel early with several other youth to practice for the musical number on Sunday during the branch conference. I was the director for this little choir. We sang "Secret Prayer". After choir I baked cupcakes with the mix Elder Quilter got for his birthday on the 5th. We then played soccer. We had several non member boys show up to play with us and we had Edith Come as well. Super fun and successfull night.  Saturday we had our English and Piano classes which also turned out great. I teach English while Elder Quilter teaches piano. We also had several new people show up to that as well. That same day however I woke up in the morning with a stuffy nose and a bit of a cough. Continued on with the day and it got worse.  Sunday we had the branch conference. Several members of the stak...

Singing in the Plaza!

August 21- Hey everyone! This week was pretty great. We had a lot going on. We had our Zone conference on Thursday which meant we went to Monterrey on Wednesday and stayed in our Zone Leaders house for the night and then wake up early to get to the conference. We were instructed a lot about obediance and memorizing scriptures. We went to a buffet called Josephinos afterwards so that was cool.  This week we had a goal of getting 13 new investigators. We worked super hard and by lSunday we came up with 10. We were 3 short of our goal. So Sunday afternoon we thought we'd give it one last shot to make 13. We started out contacting the streets kinda close to the house. We found a less active and a nonmember that we talked to and agreed to listen. We taught them and their kids about the importance of baptism. The nonmembers friend who was inside the house was listening and ended up coming outside and wanting us to come back and visit. So there we came away with two more new investi...

Nuevo Compañero

Hola mi familia y todos mis amigos! This last week we had changes. It was a little tough to say goodbye to Elder Peña but it was time for a change. I'm still here in Sabinas with my new companion Elder Quilter. He has 11 months in the mission and is super cool. He is from Park City Utah and before the mission he worked as a river guide on the Colorado river. It has been interesting leading now. Showing around the area and everything. He's had some pretty fun ideas too. We went to one of the plazas near our house at around 8 at night. Elder Quilter can play the Harmonica and the piano. So in the plaza Elder Quilter played the harmonica and I sang hymns. It was super cool. We met a few cool people that way. We are also gonna start doing English and piano classes every Saturday in the Chapel now. It is fun to start trying different things. It has been killer heat down here but the canicula should be ending in a few weeks.  Today we went to the Turbina and saw this live M...

Cambios!!!

Hey everyone! So this week we have just pretty much getting ready for our changes that were coming up. We found out yesterday what was going to happen. I'm staying here in Sabinas! Elder Peña is going to Nuevo Loredo. He was a bit sad to be leaving and having to pack up everything and go to a new area just for 5 weeks and then return home. Elder Peña received the call from our district leader who told us the changes. Elder Peña couldn't say the name of my new companion very well so I don't really know his name yet. But he is American I'm pretty sure. We are leaving for Monterrey at 4:00 today and tomorrow we have to be at the mission offices at around 8:00 AM to get our companions and return to our areas. I'm gonna miss Elder Peña. He's been awesome.  This last Saturday we got to do some service for the Branch President. We got to his house and started at around 7 in the morning and we didn't get done until around 1. It was kind of 2 different projects i...

Final Week of Training

July 31, Hey everyone! Wow I've already been out here for 4 months. Crazy. This is my final week of training! Also crazy. On Sunday night we find out who our new companions will be and if I'm going to a new area, Monday we pack everything up, and Tuesday we have the changes. We'll see what happens.  The heat is unbearable. I am gonna be really jealous of my family in Flaming Gorge this week.  The work here in Sabinas Hidalgo is difficult. Finding people to teach isn't the problem. The city is small enough that everyone has heard about the "Mormon Church" and it has a bad rep. It seems that with every person we talk to when we tell them who we are they say "Oh you go to that church that is always empty". It's a sad truth. People in Sabinas look at our church as not all that great because no one goes. So when we invite people to come they say yes to be polite but never actually come. two weeks ago we only had 7 members in the chapel. It ...
