The Cool before the heat wave

It has actually cooled off for a few days because of the serious cloud cover.  It was supposed to rain but it didn't.  We just got the big dark clouds and the cooler air which was perfect.  The real heat starts next week with the start of the Canicula.

A little about our Branch:

We have started to see little changes with the attitude of the people in the Branch.  One less active priesthood holder has started coming back to church and the Branch President has started doing less active visits with us.  So that is good.

We have found a family of 4 that we have high hopes for.  The mom's name is Lorena and she has 3 kids.  The father lives in Texas.

One cool little announcement from the Mission Pres.:  He said that this next year, some areas of the mission will be getting tablets and some areas might be getting cars.

This week Dallin sent a recording,  He is a bit slow with his words and says "um" a lot.  I can tell he is thinking of the English word for things.  That makes me happy!!   He says:

Hi everyone,  This week has been pretty awesome.  We had zone conference on Wednesday the 5th,  which was a little crazy.  We had to go down to Monterrey on Tuesday night and then wake up early at 5am to get across the train and get to the chapel where we are having the zone conference.  Me and one of the other missionaries uh that were on the metro, the metro is the fastest and cheapest way to get around the entire city and but it is also the most uncomfortable.  It is just chuck full of people, they're everywhere, so you literally have to shove your way on.  So it was us and our entire district running around trying to find or trying to get on the metro at the same time.  And me and one of the other new missionaries in our district got left behind because we were trying to push our way on to the metro and the doors closed before me and the other missionary could get on.  So the rest of our district was on the metro and we were, and the metro left with everyone else, and then me and the other missionary were left behind.  Elder Olivera, he's from Brazil, and uh so like Crap!  Neither of us had a phone and we didn't know what stop we were supposed to get off on.  So we just got on the metro and hoped we would see the rest of the district waiting for us on the next stop or one of the next stops.  Luckily they were and we were able to get off and find them again  so, that was fun.  The actual zone conference started at 9:30 and didn't get over until 4. And our bus back to Sabinas uh left at 6 like there wasn't an earlier one.  The earliest one we could have got on was at 3:30 but we were still in the zone conference by then, so we had to wait in Monterrey until 6.  We didn't actually get back to Sabinas until 8:00 at night, and so our whole day was basically spent, so we couldn't do anything that day, so that kind of sucked, but....no, everything is going good.  The Canicula starts next week eeh, yay!  The heat is going to be terrible.  um, our investigator, Panchis, who had a baptismal date for the 9th of July, uh when we went and visited her on Friday, uh her old pastor from the Evangal uh Christiana church came and visited her and said that what we were teaching her was wrong and that she needed to keep attending her church that she used to go to.  So when we went to visit her on Friday, she told us that she might still come to church every now and then, but she doesn't really want to change anything right now, so she doesn't want to be baptized, so that was kind of sad to hear. um but you know, can't really do anything about it except pray for her and keep loving her and hoping one day she will change her mind, but uh everything else has been going really good.  It's kind of crazy it has already started week 3 of our second change so only three more weeks until my training is done, and then I will either be a trainer or get put with a different companion in a different area, so we will see what happens.  Uh, Love you guys, uh I will talk to you later I guess.  See ya.

Jan 7 - Bad Toes

Jan. 7 well this last week was pretty eventful. Wednesday I had to go to the hospital to get both of my toes taken care of because I had ingrown toenails on both feet. Since it was both feet I've been unable to do anything for almost the whole week. Today I am going back to get the stitches out so I can get back to working. It isn't even cold down here. Well hope everyone has a really good week.  Elder Hoyt

Training

Hey everyone so I just finished my first week as a trainer. My new companion is Elder Peña from the Dominican Republic. He is 25 years old and is a convert of 2 and a half years. I almost feel like I am the one being trained here haha. He has so much gospel knowledge and has absolutely no problem with wanting to talk to people. He is also exactly obedient along with me. We have a baptism for the 31st coming up and we are finding more people to teach. I have a good feeling about the success we are going to have this change.  I am also excited for my Christmas call coming up on Monday next week!! I get to see my family! Tomorrow is our mission talent show/ christmas dinner and I'll be singing let it go haha.  I love you all! Talk to you next week New Trainers And your new trainee is........ 1 year mark!!!

Hey everyone! So this last week I hit my 1 year mark on the 4th! It is so weird. I don't feel like I have been out here for a year already. I have learned so much and for this last half I am going to apply what I have learned to bring out my full missionary potential!  This week we are going to be having a baptism on Saturday. And then we are going to be having changes next Tuesday so we'll see what happens there as well. I have been here in Allende for a while so there is a chance that I get changed. We are all pretty sure that Elder Hendricks is gonna be going too.  We had a cool opportunity to do some service on Saturday. We helped a guy cut some weeds and clean up his yard too. His neighbor thought we were crazy for coming here to Mexico for two years to help people, but was impressed as well.  Anyway, Love you all! Have a great week!
