Singing in the Plaza!

August 21-

Hey everyone! This week was pretty great. We had a lot going on. We had our Zone conference on Thursday which meant we went to Monterrey on Wednesday and stayed in our Zone Leaders house for the night and then wake up early to get to the conference. We were instructed a lot about obediance and memorizing scriptures. We went to a buffet called Josephinos afterwards so that was cool.

This week we had a goal of getting 13 new investigators. We worked super hard and by lSunday we came up with 10. We were 3 short of our goal. So Sunday afternoon we thought we'd give it one last shot to make 13. We started out contacting the streets kinda close to the house. We found a less active and a nonmember that we talked to and agreed to listen. We taught them and their kids about the importance of baptism. The nonmembers friend who was inside the house was listening and ended up coming outside and wanting us to come back and visit. So there we came away with two more new investigators, but we were still one short and it was starting to get late. So we decided to go to the plaza that is also close to the house because there are usually a ton of people there on Sunday nights. Elder Quilter whipped out the harmonica and while he played I sang hymns. After a little while 2 young women who had been walking around the plaza came over and listened to us perform a couple more hymns and then approached us and asked who we were and what we did. We shared a brief message with them and they both accepted an invitation for a visit to each of their houses to talk with their families as well. This experiance was super awesome! I have always felt that music has an ability to bring the spirit unlike anything else. There are endless ways to do missionary work. You just have to look for them.

So we ended up with 14 new investigators and surpassing our goal of 13. Yeah!!!
The work is going well. I love this people. I love the Lord.

I love you guys and I'll talk to you next week.

Jan 7 - Bad Toes

Jan. 7 well this last week was pretty eventful. Wednesday I had to go to the hospital to get both of my toes taken care of because I had ingrown toenails on both feet. Since it was both feet I've been unable to do anything for almost the whole week. Today I am going back to get the stitches out so I can get back to working. It isn't even cold down here. Well hope everyone has a really good week.  Elder Hoyt

Training

Hey everyone so I just finished my first week as a trainer. My new companion is Elder Peña from the Dominican Republic. He is 25 years old and is a convert of 2 and a half years. I almost feel like I am the one being trained here haha. He has so much gospel knowledge and has absolutely no problem with wanting to talk to people. He is also exactly obedient along with me. We have a baptism for the 31st coming up and we are finding more people to teach. I have a good feeling about the success we are going to have this change.  I am also excited for my Christmas call coming up on Monday next week!! I get to see my family! Tomorrow is our mission talent show/ christmas dinner and I'll be singing let it go haha.  I love you all! Talk to you next week New Trainers And your new trainee is........ 1 year mark!!!

Hey everyone! So this last week I hit my 1 year mark on the 4th! It is so weird. I don't feel like I have been out here for a year already. I have learned so much and for this last half I am going to apply what I have learned to bring out my full missionary potential!  This week we are going to be having a baptism on Saturday. And then we are going to be having changes next Tuesday so we'll see what happens there as well. I have been here in Allende for a while so there is a chance that I get changed. We are all pretty sure that Elder Hendricks is gonna be going too.  We had a cool opportunity to do some service on Saturday. We helped a guy cut some weeds and clean up his yard too. His neighbor thought we were crazy for coming here to Mexico for two years to help people, but was impressed as well.  Anyway, Love you all! Have a great week!
