A Baptism for Christmas

Opening presents Christmas Day
Hola familia y amigos en casa! What an awesome coulpe of weeks we've had here in San Nicolas. The best experience was the baptism we had on the 29th and the events that lead to it. The person that was baptized is named Martha. She is 19 years old and has a little 1 year old girl named Kenya. The week before last she got married to her boyfriend that was living with her, Kevin, who is already a member of the church. Their family had just moved here from a different state because of rediculous problems that were happening and they had to leave their house and most of their posessions and basically start over. Martha was listening to the missionaries before after her family got baptized but did'nt show much interest in the church and she wasn't to excited about marrying Kevin. After having to drop eveything and move to a new state and start over she told us that she was humbled and knew that now was the time to change. The missionaries before were having a ton of opposition to try and get her married and baptized for a while but never could. When Martha and her family moved here it seemed like everything fell into place almost perfectly. Within 3 weeks of her mom finding us in front of our house and telling us to come and visit the family, we had Martha and Kevin married and Martha was able to be baptized.

it was the best thing that I could have gotten for christmas, seeing this family return to church and be united through the desire of a daughter to change. She ended a year and an old life and now with the start of a new year comes the start of a new life for her and her new family. Martha and Kevin have their sight set on the temple a year from now.

I hope everyone had an amazing christmas! And hope that you will all have a very happy start to a new year!

Training

Hey everyone so I just finished my first week as a trainer. My new companion is Elder Peña from the Dominican Republic. He is 25 years old and is a convert of 2 and a half years. I almost feel like I am the one being trained here haha. He has so much gospel knowledge and has absolutely no problem with wanting to talk to people. He is also exactly obedient along with me. We have a baptism for the 31st coming up and we are finding more people to teach. I have a good feeling about the success we are going to have this change.  I am also excited for my Christmas call coming up on Monday next week!! I get to see my family! Tomorrow is our mission talent show/ christmas dinner and I'll be singing let it go haha.  I love you all! Talk to you next week New Trainers And your new trainee is........ Jan 7 - Bad Toes

Jan. 7 well this last week was pretty eventful. Wednesday I had to go to the hospital to get both of my toes taken care of because I had ingrown toenails on both feet. Since it was both feet I've been unable to do anything for almost the whole week. Today I am going back to get the stitches out so I can get back to working. It isn't even cold down here. Well hope everyone has a really good week.  Elder Hoyt

1 year mark!!!

Hey everyone! So this last week I hit my 1 year mark on the 4th! It is so weird. I don't feel like I have been out here for a year already. I have learned so much and for this last half I am going to apply what I have learned to bring out my full missionary potential!  This week we are going to be having a baptism on Saturday. And then we are going to be having changes next Tuesday so we'll see what happens there as well. I have been here in Allende for a while so there is a chance that I get changed. We are all pretty sure that Elder Hendricks is gonna be going too.  We had a cool opportunity to do some service on Saturday. We helped a guy cut some weeds and clean up his yard too. His neighbor thought we were crazy for coming here to Mexico for two years to help people, but was impressed as well.  Anyway, Love you all! Have a great week!
