INTERVIEWS & Metro Fights

Letter from July 9th

What a busy week we had! We weren't in our area for a lot of time. Friday and Saturday both were spent completely in other areas. Tuesday I went to Sabinas Hidalgo on divisions to do a baptismal interview. Friday, me and Elder Catmull went to Sabinas again so I could do two more interviews. We left at 7 in the morning and the bus back didn't leave until 5:45 in the afternoon. On the bus ride back I got a call from the zone leaders saying that they needed me to go do another interview in the area of the other district leader because the other district leader had to go to a different area to do an interview and the zone leaders were going to be busy so they couldn't go. So me and Elder Catmull met up with D.L. Elder Cardenas and his companion, Elder Norman at the metro station to divide up. Me with Norman and Catmull with Cardenas.

While we were there in the metro about to split up, a big fight broke out in front of us between to guys and the gaurds. It got crazy. They got pushed into us but we got out of it on one side. When the cops showed up, one of the guys that was all bloodied up ran down the stairs to the highway and tried running accross the road in big city traffic, but got hit by a car. Didn't seem to hurt him though or he was on drugs and just couldn't feel it because he just got up, punched the side of a bus, ran to the middle of the road that divided the two ways of traffic, started throwing rocks at people, then ran accross to the other side of the road after almost getting hit by a speeding taxi and then ran off who knows where.

So we were just fine and nothing happened to us. After that craziness I got to the area of Norman, did the baptismal interview, and then by that time it was 9:45 at night so I stayed with bNorman for the night and Catmull and Cardenas were in another area. In the morning me and Catmull met back up, got to our area with enough time to change, eat, and then go to the area of the zone leaders to be witnesses for a wedding. After the wedding, I interviewed the newly wed couple and 20 minutes later we all got into a packed truck and we went and baptized them at the stake center. We went back to their house afterwards and I interviewed 2 more members of the family who were then baptized on Sunday. Me and Catmull got back to our house, Saturday night at 9:30.

This week I did 8 baptismal interviews. We got changes yesterday night as well. Me and Catmull are staying together in Fraustro. There weren't really a ton of changes in the zone. I am happy because me and Elder Catmull have 3 people ready to be baptized this weekend! We are going to be starting off this next change great!

I love you all! Looking forward to yet another busy week.

Jan 7 - Bad Toes

Jan. 7 well this last week was pretty eventful. Wednesday I had to go to the hospital to get both of my toes taken care of because I had ingrown toenails on both feet. Since it was both feet I've been unable to do anything for almost the whole week. Today I am going back to get the stitches out so I can get back to working. It isn't even cold down here. Well hope everyone has a really good week.  Elder Hoyt

Training

Hey everyone so I just finished my first week as a trainer. My new companion is Elder Peña from the Dominican Republic. He is 25 years old and is a convert of 2 and a half years. I almost feel like I am the one being trained here haha. He has so much gospel knowledge and has absolutely no problem with wanting to talk to people. He is also exactly obedient along with me. We have a baptism for the 31st coming up and we are finding more people to teach. I have a good feeling about the success we are going to have this change.  I am also excited for my Christmas call coming up on Monday next week!! I get to see my family! Tomorrow is our mission talent show/ christmas dinner and I'll be singing let it go haha.  I love you all! Talk to you next week New Trainers And your new trainee is........ Elder Pena from the Dominican Republic Trainers and Trainees posing with the Pres.

1 year mark!!!

Hey everyone! So this last week I hit my 1 year mark on the 4th! It is so weird. I don't feel like I have been out here for a year already. I have learned so much and for this last half I am going to apply what I have learned to bring out my full missionary potential!  This week we are going to be having a baptism on Saturday. And then we are going to be having changes next Tuesday so we'll see what happens there as well. I have been here in Allende for a while so there is a chance that I get changed. We are all pretty sure that Elder Hendricks is gonna be going too.  We had a cool opportunity to do some service on Saturday. We helped a guy cut some weeds and clean up his yard too. His neighbor thought we were crazy for coming here to Mexico for two years to help people, but was impressed as well.  Anyway, Love you all! Have a great week!
